Wow, Been So Long

I don’t know if everyone else felt the same but time passes rather quickly for me. It has been close to three weeks now that I am back in Hyderabad and almost one month now that I have not updated this blog. It just happened in a blink of an eye, or at least it felt like this now. It is always the case where time passes by really fast only on hindsight.

I was in Jakarta during the weekend and while I was there, I managed to find some time to look at their DVD market and ended up buying some back. It is amazing that the titles available in Jakarta is quite up-to-date. Or maybe because I am now out of the industry for almost 5 months, I am actually behind time. But well, I am really happy to have bought some movies that I really wanted to watch, among them:

1. Volver
2. The Wind that Shakes the Barley
3. The Road to Guantanamo
4. Welcome to Dongmakgol
5. Tsotsi
6. Caché
7. Clerks II

These movies happened towards the tail of my career in the film industry and I have heard about them but could not get hold of them. I am sure they are also available in Kuala Lumpur by now too but alas! I am in Hyderabad!!

While I was in transit in Singapore, I managed to get hold of the DVD copy of “Gubra” which comes with “The Making Of”. All said and in all shyness, I have not watched “Gubra” yet. This shows how backward my movie watching is now….

On the other hand, however, my knowledge of Bollywood movies is improving and I have just watched “Fanaa”. Truly, it is a very good movie and I enjoyed it very much. In the Bollywood scene, after the rage that was “Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna”, the number one Bollywood movie right now is “Omkara”, a Bollywood adaptation of Shakespeare’s Othello. It sure sounded like a good one to watch.

Movie Downloads

As the world becomes smaller and smaller thanks to the internet, the scope of sharing contents is so much greater. It is not hard now to download things from the internet via file sharing programs such as eMule or Bittorrent. There are also many generous people sharing videos via online streaming sites such as YouTube or Google Video. Some of these meterials, however, are copyrighted and is therefore illegal.

I chanced upon this website that has a list of movies (among other contents) that have fallen out of copyright and the list of movies available is quite amazing. These movies include classics such as “Un chien andalou” (1929), “Battleship Potemkin” (1925), “Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, The” (1920), “L’âge D’or” (1930), “Metropolis” (1926), “Plan 9 from Outer Space” (1959) etc. If you are interested, here is the link:
